When I graduate I plan on becoming a nurse, I interviewed my mom, she is a nurse and the whole reason for why i chose my profession. I have a passion for helping people and I saw what she did and realized that that is what I wanted to do. When I interviewed her she made me realize that it is a lot harder than i thought. I found out that I am not guaranteed a job in what i want to do and i have to have experience underneath my belt to really be accepted.
The first question I asked her was how long it took for her to get to where she is now, and with college included it took her 12 years. 8 years of school and 4 years of trying to find someone that would hire her. She stressed to me that it is not easy to get a job right away, and she told me that i should volunteer and do what ever i could before i start trying to find a job, because then i would be more likely to get a job in what i want to do.
The second question i asked her was how her income was, and she told me despite our economic problem at the moment, her job really does pay her a lot, and once out debt is cleaned up she will be able to flourish like she always planned. Again she stressed to me that nothing is like you imagine, and that if you really want it to end up the way you want it to, not to think too big in the beginning. Start small, and when you know you can buy that car or that house without regret then it is time to make that step, do not act on a whim unless you know you can make it without having to worry.
What i learned from my interview is that everything can be exactly how i want it to be just as long as I make the right decisions while pursuing my dream. It's not impossible, it can just take a very long time if i mess up in the beginning.

my experience with the environment
my initial carbon footprint consisted of 3.3 earths, and 16.4 acres of land.
My 24 hours of lowering my carbon footprint was not difficult, because, i dont have a car and i never ride a bus, i walk everywhere. I am already a recycling fiend and i never buy anything, because i am on a college income which is zero. I never use paper, and when i do its in a notebook, and i always recycle when im done.
The only thing I dont have control over, which is the only thing that i really had to work on was my living space and how it is conducted. I live in a dorm with 7 other girls, and its really hard to not have someone running water 24/7 or having a light on 24/7. My contribution to lowering my carbon footprint was that i replaced some of the light bulbs in my room with environmental safe bulbs that i had bought before i moved here.
I think the environment is very important, and should be taken care of. Walking is not that bad of a thing people! it is not necessary to drive to your mailbox, or to drive to your class if you live on campus! saving out environment is more important than you being a little worn out.
after 24 hours my footprint was 3.2 earth and 15.7 acres of land, i am assuming that is not too bad considering the fact that the only thing they told me to work on was my housing and water usage.

experience without technology
I realized in the 24 hours i went with out technology that i rely on it way too much. I realized that with out being able to communicate, immediately, with everyone at the same time made my life very boring. My life is centered around texting and facebook, and it worries me how obsessed i am.
I resulted in baking, reading, cleaning, and playing board games to get my mind off of technology, but even then it was hard, because music is a very important part of my life, and being without music while doing all of those tasks was very difficult.
What worries me the most about my obsession is the fact that it is possible that everyone may be without technology someday, and i have no idea what i will do about it.

The Challenges my Family/I will face in the next four years:
The Challenge my family will face in the next four years, will be the same as the challenge they have been forced to deal with for the past eight: money. Our economy is in the worst shape ever, and although we have elected a candidate that promises to improve the shape of our economy, it can not be done over night. Hopefully, he will be able to prove us wrong and get it back in shape in his first term, but there is a lot of cleaning up to do. In the next four years, Barack Obama will have a lot on his plate, of course the economy being first, but there are a lot of other things that need to be fixed before number one can be. While we have to wait, our economy and families that are considered lower middle class now, when they were higher middle class four years ago, will have to wait to get their title, and lives back.
My family has struggled through this crisis for many years now, longer than people have been aware of it. It all started with the housing market and the weeding out the old and in with the new, job wise. My mother went to college and got her masters in nursing, and has yet to relish in her benefits. We were forced to move many time because of mortgage being so expensive. And I was forced to transfer schools multiple times.
I honestly believe that we can make it through these next four years with the hope instilled in us by Barack Obama. I believe that no matter how long it may take, he will get us all back on our feet and we will get back to where we were, pre- Bush JR. It will be a long road, but it is possible.

different ways to go with my paper
1. exploring the change of the Sims from the beginning to now. The game started off very basic, but now the game is very intricate and involved.
2. exploring the reason behind the game. IE why the game emphasizes on buying and giving = happiness.
3. explain the purpose for the game through the creators views. Why did he make the game? was it to show his view of the world?
Working Thesis:
The Sims emphasizes buying, giving, and selling as a source of happiness, because the game is based on real life, in grand prospective, happiness is derived from buying, selling, and giving.

The Sims
http://sonyvaio-cnet.com.com/2008-1043_3-5366681.html
http://www.insidemacgames.com/news/story.php?articleID=2370
Article One is a questionnaire about the creator of the Sims and how the Sims 1 and the Sims 2 are contrasted. In the Sims one the player could create a character, and buy it things to make it happy. There were no in depth details about the game; it was just very simple, new, and fun. The Sims 2 is much more in depth such as; the characters have a self-esteem and if they are mistreated the character can go insane, the game itself is more involved, there are more things to do, and more things to buy and more ways to make your Sim happy. The Sims is based on real life, and shows the player what theyre really like in a very blunt way.
Article Two is about certain qualities of the Sims Online. It goes into detail about how the player can "bookmark" an object and if it is bought, the person you bought it off of gets commission, the creator of the object gets commission and the person who bought the object has a reason to throw a party and therefore make their Sim happy. If the player buys one of each of the objects they purchased they will have enough to open a showroom and make enough money to buy their Sim whatever their heart may desire. The game itself is designed to fulfill the happiness of the players character and find whatever means possible to do so, just like in real life.

3 games i have played
The first game I played was called 'click for Obama'. The object of the game was to answer questions based on politics and politicians around the world, for every question answered correctly 500 pixels were donated to an Obama ad. The game promotes Obama's campaign and his views, therefore making the game and advergame.
The second game I played was called 'Free Rice'. Before you start the game, you get to pick what type of questions you want to answer such as: Vocabulary, Chemistry, Math, Languages, or even famous paintings. Once you have picked the subject you start answering questions, much like in Obama's game, and for every question answered correctly a certain amount of rice grains are donated to third world countries. This game can be considered as both an advergame and a persuasive game, in that the game promotes helping third world countries, and also advertises the free rice union.
The last game I played was 'Darfur is Dying'. The object of the game is to get an innocent child or woman to the border, all while avoiding the hunters. If the carachter is caught you're given two choices, go to the camp to die, or start over again. Further in the game you are asked to send a letter to a congressman conserning the genocide in Darfur. The game truely displays how horrific it is to live in Darfur now, and inspires us to help, thus making it an Educational or Serious game.
